Regulation & Codes
Code review
In 2024 and 2025, CRA conducted a review of the Code to ensure it continues to provide appropriate community safeguards for the matters covered by the Code. This included a 6-weekeek public consultation.
In February 2026, the ACMA announced that it had registered a new Radio Code, which will commence on 1 July 2026. You can access the new code here.
Commercial radio code of practice
The Broadcasting Services Act 1992 provides that the relevant industry bodies (Commercial Radio & Audio Limited (CRA) on behalf of the Commercial Radio industry), develop in consultation with the Australian Communications Media Authority (ACMA), the Commercial Radio Code of Practice 2017 (the Code) which applies to all commercial radio broadcasting services operated by a licensee. The Code is formulated in consultation with the CRA members and is then registered by the ACMA.
You can view the existing Code here.
Commercial Radio Guidelines
Commercial radio broadcasters are also encouraged to use these guidelines when producing content. Please note that these guidelines do not form part of the Code and are intended as a general outline only.
ACCC Code
The ACCC published its own Media Code of Conduct , a copy of which may be found Media Code of Conduct | ACCC.
