2024 Australian Podcast Report: A Year in Review
Podcasting in Australia continues to thrive, with listenership surging 37% over the past two years, according to the 2024 Australian Podcast Report released by Commercial Radio & Audio (CRA) in partnership with Triton Digital. Nearly 6 million Australians now listen weekly, highlighting the medium’s growing influence and the increasing diversity of participating publishers.
Younger audiences are driving this momentum, with 48% of Australians aged 18-34 listening in the past month, followed by 37% of those aged 35-54 and 21% of listeners aged 55+. Smartphones dominate, with 94.2% of podcast consumption happening via mobile devices, cementing podcasting as an essential on-the-go medium.
When it comes to content, Society & Culture, True Crime, and News remain the top-performing genres. True Crime, in particular, continues to captivate audiences, with its fans 57% more likely to listen for over five hours weekly.
